Saranya's Vegetable Garden!

Summer heat is beating down hard here in Pune; it's unbearable. But nothing seems to keep Saranya from spending time out in the sun; She has made a little vegetable garden in our backyard. Even though she enjoys going out for buying vegetable (now that she can freely walk wearing Lungi blouse and thorthu) she likes to work with the soil; they have large farms in her native place and she grew up working when ever she could. So one fine evening , there it was: a vegetable garden in our backyard.

Though it started off as passion, the garden did make a good excuse for her to slip into lungi, even when there were guests. She simply gets a lungi and wraps it around over her nightie or what ever she is wearing at the time and moves out into the garden doing her stuff like watering the plants and so. She asked me to put this up because, she thinks that any girl who wants to wear lungi in front of others but is shy to do so can use this as a reason. Make a garden or do some thing that can spoil your dress; start wearing lungi as a protection to your dress over it; then slowly switch to lungi alone when you work in the garden.

Not a bad idea ,huh??

Few days back, one of my malayali friend and his wife dropped in at our place unexpectedly; and Saranya here was waltzing around in one of my lungi and her blouse. She was in the kitchen when I opened to door for them and I wasn't able to give her any sort of warning. My friend's wife walked straight into the kitchen and caught Saranya in lungi and blouse.Saranya was embarrassed but she handled the situation gracefully. She casually talked and walked past us into our bedroom and got a thorthu to cover her blouse. Then she acted completely normal and said that she was about to work on her garden and didn't wanted her dress to get dirty. And it seemed to me that my friend and his wife bought that excuse. She played it so well that, few minutes later my friend's wife was out with Saranya mending the plants with a lungi wrapped over her saree.

Looking Proud and Beautiful : Suganya in Mundu Blouse and Thorthu.
I must say that moving to Pune was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Saranya seems to have become much bolder and now wears lungi blouse more frequently than ever ; not just that, she seems okay wearing it out in the public too.

What I observed is that , shyness decreases the more you come out and once people get used to seeing you in certain attire, people wont care about it. So all you girls and ladies out there, who like to try out Lungi blouse, Do it! Let my darling Saranya be your inspiration.

Be proud to wear something that is uniquely Malayali.

It's great to hear that more malayali girls are interested in this fashion..
when i shared my fashion concept to my girl friend..she responded with shyness that.."ithokke uduthu nadannal eppo pani kitti ennu chothicha mathi". she perceived it as a sexy costume. but then slowly agreed to my wishes .

    1. Your girl friend is right. Even Saranya thinks so. That's only think that kept her from wearing it in public when in Kerala. But in Pune, its different. Most people doesn't have any preconceptions about this dress. So she can wear it in public. Take snaps of your girlfriend and show her how good she looks in Lungi blouse. She'll definitely like it. Insist that she wears it more often and slowly she'll get rid of her shyness. Saranya was lucky to grow up in rural area and she was able to wear mundu blouse and so right from an early age. I should say, it really takes time for girls to get used to wearing a lungi/mundu unlike us boys.

Thanks for the photos. Keep sharing your thoughts.
